New UK export markets -
design and invention

The problem facing most UK manufacturing companies is that during recession they can be entirely vulnerable to loss of home sales and profits without alternative markets.  Whilst it is true that export markets are at risk through adverse exchange rates, this is not the case for niche or luxury markets where the novelty and quality of the product can outride overseas competitors but still generate substantial profits.

Since the last war the British have proved to be the most inventive country in the world.  Today they have accounted for 50% of all new inventions in the world since 1945.  The USA have produced 25% and the Japanese 5%.  The remaining 20% is divided among the rest of the globe.

Traditionally British banks lend money against the wind up value of factories, building and land with the result that few new British inventions have been funded internally in the UK.

Japanese and German banks lend against forecast cash flows and if a new invention or product has potential they will back it.

Fortunately for their inventors most British inventions have been funded overseas by banks who have the foresight to calibrate potential.

MPC believe that UK manufacturing has substantial opportunity for opening up new export markets but their success will depend on design, originality and efficient production.

MPC is available to research new and profitable overseas markets on behalf of any company.  We can also advise on injecting originality into old products with supporting design - both these are tested through qualitative and quantitative market research.
